I have a 14 month old and I want to train him early. I know he's too young as of right now but I was thinking that I would introduce the idea to him and let him try sitting on the potty chair so he can get used to it a little a time. When is the right age?

They are all so different! I though my son was ready early because he showed interest in the potty etc... but it was a whole year later that he was actually interested and just did it pretty well on his own (when he decided he was ready  )

My sons were 3 yrs. and 3 months -- that's right, they were 39 months old before they were ready.

The good news: they were trained within hours. One pee accident and that's it -- no more accidents ever, not even at night. And, we went straight to the big potty (with an insert to make the hole smaller) -- I hate the thought of cleaning the small potty chair.

So for me, it's a matter of when they're ready. That way I have less mess to clean up. :)

Good luck. :)

Thank you for your replies. I guess I am a bit too anxious for him to try new things. Ya know how it is when they are so young and you can't wait for them to walk and talk but they do grow up so fast. I'm gonna take it a bit slower and just enjoy him.

I have 4 boys and they were all around 3 years old before they were trained. I started the oldest one at about 2 but he was not ready. Someone had told me that boys mature later and not to stress because they were more likely to be potty trained at around 3 easily vs fighting with them to learn earlier. I had been told that girls are ready earlier to learn (I think it is cause we don't like dirty pants! LOL)
