Small kids left alone in hotel room?

No doubt you have heard of the case in Portugal with the little 4 year old British Girl, Madeleine McCann. Madeleine vanished after her parents left her, and her brother and sister -- both aged 2 -- alone while they went to a nearby restaurant within their hotel complex.

My heart breaks for these people! I can not imagine :(

I must say, would never leave kids that young alone in a hotel room. I'd be hesitant to even leave older kids alone in a hotel room while DH & I went out.

What are your thoughts?

Definitely not EVER a hotel room. A friend of my mom's (an experienced business traveler) was raped coming into her hotel room once. No way.

The only time I leave Sam alone (and he's 8 :lol: ) is sometimes when I go out on a walk, but I'm right there in the neighborhood and can see our house at all times.
