my youngest daughter is getting married in nov. what are some food idea's for the dinner at the wedding.

its not gonna be a sit down dinner. the only thing so far that i can think of is meatballs:unsure:. what other foods do people have at weddings. that wont cost an arm and a leg?

we want it fun and easy and plenty of it.

Hi Tami...

Sorry I did not see your thread earlier.

Ok some fun easy ideas that should not cost a lot but will make a big impact:

Do a food display - using a round or rectangle table cover with plastic cover then your cloth cover. Purchase kale - takes approx 2 cases for the round table and a little over I believe to cover the rectangle table. Wash and clean your kale and then let it dry somewhat (does not have to be completely dry. We normally sit in a sink full of water and rinse it around then pick up kale and let is air dry then put into plastic trash bag for easy carrying to the table.

Lay each piece of kale flat on the table overlapping slightly until entire table is covered. Use flower pots to hold utensils and you can flip one upside down with its base on top upside down to make a higher place to set a tray of goodies on. Be creative in making risers so the height of items are somewhat different.

Now for the food:
Roll Ups are perfect finger food and can be made fancy or simple - I suggest having a couple varieties. They are very easy by spreading items onto a flour tortilla (or spinach tortilla etc) roll it up like a taquito and then slice into approx 1 inch pieces. Platter them nicely and have back ups to refill the platter. Items you can use is truly unlimited... use a nice cream cheese spread with cranberry and turkey or a dijon spread with ham and cheese... etc.

Cut up veggies into thin strips and lay into the kale making a nice display of edible color and place a couple dips for the veggies.

You can do the same thing with cheese and meats cut into cubes and lay them into a nice display with a basket of sliced baggets or crackers.

Have a couple salads too... The display will wow your guests. Here is a couple photos of a sample display my husband does for weddings

Hope this helps you!

Your welcome... we are catering a wedding the 25th of August I will post more photos of that set up. They are doing Thai Peanut Chicken Skewers (chicken is cooked on the skewers then cooled and you dip into the peanut sauce). Meatballs, Cheese breads (these are to die for but are very time consuming to make since you make so many at a time and they are served warm so you have to keep refreshing and making more all night). Veggie display, fruit display, cheese and meat display. I think there were a couple other things but that is my husbands job I am just a prep and helper person LOL

Ok photos of the wedding posted at:

I will post the recipe for the Thai Peanut Chicken Skewers hopefully tomorrow...

It went very well. I am way too old for this LOL my back and feet hurt all day yesterday but we didn't get home till 1:00 am Sunday morning. We started the prep on Friday and then back again on Saturday morning to finish things up before it was time to create the display. Everyone was very happy with the food and the display especially the happy couple and of course the parents paying for it! LOL
