Shannon & I had fun last night.
If you're going to the movie and you're not a tweenybopper, here's what I'd advise...
Make sure you go with a fun friend that you'd have fun with anyway - go out to eat, have a few drinks...Or if you could find a place like we did, the Movie Tavern, that'd be perfect - its so much fun no matter what movie you see, LOL...
Definitely go expecting a "campy, indie-movieish-kind of feel" to the movie. Not a supergreat portrayal of a book-to-movie, of course, but just an overall "general good portrayal of the characters, generally entertaining - DEFINITELY geared for a young-crowd - show".
I found the whole waiting-in-line-with-all-the-Twilighthead-tweenyboppers totally FUN and funny.
Shannon and I had a glass of wine while we waited in line to enter the auditorium (remember, we went to the Movie Tavern) so it was just that much funner.
Okay, as it started -
It had a great little "indie movieish" kind of feel to it, which I like.
Bella was perfect, I thought.
Then came the high school, and the students from the book - Eric, Mike (I think that's the main school guyfriend's name), and the guy that almost hits her w/ the van - I forget his name - and Jessica and Angela. Well, Eric is Asian with High School Musical hair ( ) - and Angela is portrayed as kind of geeky - I guess Hollywood "multiculturaled it up".
Then the whole beautiful Cullen family walks into the school cafeteria - prepare for screams and cheers from the teenyboppers. LOL, it was fun.
And the whole "Edward catching a whiff of Bella when she walks into science class" was pretty (probably unintentionally) hilarious. His face as the classroom fan blows Bella's scent toward him is awful and hilarious at the same time. I liked the classroom scenes.
I have to say about Edward...that I thought he would be the cheesiest - the one I'd have the most problem with because of all the trailers with his constantly brooding, self-loathing facial expressions - I thought, "ugh, if he's like that the whole way through, that'll be downright annoying." - But he was actually the one I thought did probably the best job! He totally WAS Edward. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
And the sparkle effect when the sunlight hits his skin - I thought it was great and not over-the-top like it could've been.
The movie didn't "wow" me, of course, but it didn't disappoint me either, because I went in with expectations of just 'having fun, having dinner and some drinks, and watching something that'll probably mildly entertain me'. It was what I thought it would be. It definitely sets up the audience for a "part two" though - New Moon, I guess.
The bad vampires were pretty cool - and definitely EYE CANDY DELUXE, I thought.
Edward and Bella definitely had some good chemistry, which I thought was the best part of the books, and the movie, but Shannon and I deduced right as I was dropping her off - "if we would have been able to make the movie, it would have been a little more adult and more filled with sex scenes."
LOL. So, overall, a thumbs up for a fun night out with your girlfriend/s.
