I have found using the phrase "take turns" is generally way more successful than "share". To a toddler, "share" is a pretty abstract notion. Taking turns, when demonstrated, seems much easier to grasp.
Sometimes just phrasing stuff a different way will end up saving your sanity by the end of the day. :)
Another tip when sharing is necessary. For example, if there's one huge box of markers and everybody in the group wants it, rather than squealing "Share! Share!" at them, instruct each child in the group to take "two or three" (and expect each toddler in the group to punctuate his grabbing the box with a decidedly firm, "three."  ).
