I just came running in from the garage to jot this tip down, because I just used it, LOL...Something which carried over from preschool teaching...I've found that preceeding a request (a non-negotiable one, especially) with "I want you to..." generally yeilds great results. Said with an authoritative (teacher) - but respectful - tone, I've found it is rarely negotiated by young kids of any age.

"Charlie - I want you to bring the basketball back out to the garage now."

'Gits 'er done.

Sometimes I do that, but use "I need you" :)
