View Full Version : Want to share a DI success story?
If you had a successful story regarding DI procedure at age 40 or over, would you please share it with us? How did you do it? Was it still possible? Would you recommend a particular clininc? Thank you!

Welcome Lily :)
Pregnancy rates for women over 35 drop off, and for women over 40 are much lower -- this is the same whether you are using donor sperm at a clinic or not. For this reason, many fertility clinics will be more aggressive in treating women over 40. Success rates for those using IUI / ICI with a donor are typically slightly higher than regular pregnancy rates because of the clinical monitoring and timing of the inseminations :)
That said, I was born to a woman over 40 -- and I know many women over 40 who have had babies.
What tests has your doctor/clinic done? What other treatment options have they given you? Sometimes a combonation of treatments will be used along with DI.
I wish you all the best! Keep us posted :)
Thanks Annie for your quick response.
Nothing special was done by the clinic because all the blood tests showed that the productive system seems to be viable.
Only had one DI so far, not successful - which is normal.
Wanted to order more DI units, but was discouraged by the clinic nurse - saying that even if a DI eventually results in an pregnancy, the possibility of carrying the preg to the full term might not be looking good, at age of 43.
That's why I'd like to know if there is any successful story out there for women in this age range who never had kids prior to 40, but got preg through DI over age 40.

I'm amazed that all they did were blood tests?? No hysterosalpingogram, lomiphene citrate challenge test, or antral follicle count? Often doctors will perfom more than just blood tests before begining fertility treatments -- including donor insemination. They can rul out or treat any other concerns before starting DI.
Did they do ICI or IUI?? And yes, very normal to not have success on the first try.
I think the nurse was way out of line to say such a thing to you. Yes, it is often harder for women over 40 to become pregnant, but once you become pregnant, your pregnancy is exactly the same as one that occurs naturally in a woman of your age. There is no increased risk of miscarriage or congenital abnormalities beyond what would be expected for women in your age group.
