Diabetes,
Obesity & Children, What do they have in Common?
By Lena Sanchez
Once
upon a time, sounds like a fairy tale and it is anything but,
diabetes was a rare disorder in children. That is no longer the
case. Diabetes is rampant in our children and grandchildren. What
is being done to remedy this situation? Sadly, the 2003 The National
Children with Diabetes Foundation had their conference in Orlando
Florida and I read through their notes and so-called education
with the hopes of finding out that someone was educating these
children and parents on how to reverse or prevent diabetes.
The
conference was sponsored by a whole host of drug companies and
glucose monitoring equipment companies but I found nothing on
truly helping prevent or reverse diabetes or even a sensible explanation
of diabetes. There was everything about how to monitor and what
insulin is best for what diabetes, when is the best time to monitor
the blood and give the insulin, but nothing to encourage them
to possibly reverse or prevent the problem. Dont know why
I was surprised, as I should have known it would be nothing short
of pushing their products. I was greatly disappointed that their
education in prevention is totally missing!
These
obese diabetic children are at risk for blindness, losing limbs
and mental tardiness. All side effects of adult onset diabetes
who start later in life, so what chance do these children have
at being healthy starting so early in life? Not much.
Lets
look at why diabetes is running rampant in the kids of today!
First
and foremost is our fast food society. The drive-in restaurants
- with parents permission - feed them fat and junk that in turn
puts pounds on them, kills their immune system so that they are
one constant infection waiting to take hold. Moms are simply tired
from a hard days work away from home, that its easier to
drive through than it is to go home and put a good diet on the
table
Hence insufficient minerals and vitamins to promote
growth and health.
Secondly
Play Station and computers have them in front of the screens playing
games, when they are home, and the only thing moving is the hands
and eyes. While the TV programs are making vegetables from their
brains because they do not have to use the brain, hence the TV
nickname BoobTube, creating real mental disability.
Third
children are fed diets of high carbohydrates, which in turn become
sugar in their system overloading the pancreas. They also ingest
so much sugar that another burden is placed on the pancreas. With
both causing extreme obesity in more than 60% of children. So
with the sugar choking it and the fat choking it is it any wonder
the pancreas stops working and cant handle the load put
on it.
Yes
I am fully aware the medical profession says ingesting sugar does
not cause diabetes. Well grandma was right and these guys are
so off base. It has been proven that the pancreas overloaded with
sugar and trying to cope with the insulin required that it will
break down soon!
Treating
diabetes flawed as well!
Dr.
Julian Whitaker wrote; Diabetes means having an elevated
blood sugar level. The tragedy is that the treatment of diabetes
is fundamentally flawed and has not changed appreciably in 50
years. Todays entire approach to diabetes is an almost neurotic
fixation on lowering the blood sugar level, either with insulin
or oral drugs. Incredibly, this approach totally ignores the fact
that most diabetics produce too much of their own insulin.
Leaving
a child or adult in a wronged treatment program!
He
goes on to say, You see, only 10% of diabetics actually
have reduced production of insulin. Theyre called insulin-dependent
(type I) diabetics, and will likely always need insulin replacement.
However, 90% of diabetics have non-insulin-dependent (type II)
diabetes. Rather than an insulin deficiency, these patients produce
two to three times the normal level, but the insulin
doesnt work.
As
a result of this process, diabetes causes massive excretion not
only of glucose-rich urine. It also triggers massive losses of
the nutrients you need for health, including B1, B6 and B12, as
well as the 84 minerals in your system. Some are so important
to health, magnesium, selenium, zinc and chromium, that without
them the heart and all other systems start to break down. This
loss of vital nutrients is perhaps the primary reason for the
deterioration of their eyes, kidneys, peripheral nerves and vessels
that so often occurs with diabetes.
These
same complications would result from any condition that causes
such massive nutrient depletion. Once you realize this,
you can appreciate why eating properly and nutritional supplementation
of your diet is the keys to avoiding, minimizing and even reversing
diabetes and its harmful effects.
So
you see education in prevention is of the utmost importance in
preventing and reversing diabetes in children who may or may
not grow up to be adults. Good fresh vegetables, less sugars,
less empty carbohydrates and supplementing with total minerals
and meganutrient rich natural vitamins along with eating a diet
rich in fruits and vegetables free of chemicals is the childrens
only chance of survival
