Online
Advent Calendars
By Robin Nobles
When
I was a child, my mother always bought my brother and me advent
calendars as a way to mark off the days until Christmas. We loved
opening the little windows to see what picture, saying, or scripture
was found underneath.
When
I had children of my own, my mother carried on the tradition, and
my children experienced that same thrill.
With
the Internet, we now have online advent calendars, some of which
are really unusual and certainly worth a visit.
For
example, at Tate's Online Advent Calendar site, you can read a story
that has new installments added every day. Your children will love
the antics of Tate, the black cat, and they'll want to visit the
site each day to listen to more of Tate's Christmas story. http://www.advent-calendars.com
At
the World Wide Christmas Calendar, each day your children can click
on a numbered package to read a story written by a child in another
country as he or she explains how they celebrate Christmas. http://www.algonet.se/~bernadot/christmas/calendar.html
Try
to spend a little time each day with your children and visit these
unique sites and read the stories. I'm sure both you and the children
will enjoy getting away from the hectic frenzy of the holiday season
by reading the stories and just being together.
