Protect
Your Kids from Harmful Sunburns this Summer
by Robin Nobles
We've
all been there the horrible feeling of a sunburn. Few things
feel worse, with the painful, stretched feeling where your skin
burns and hurts when anything (including clothing) touches it.
And once that "excitement" is behind you, you have "peeling" to
look forward to.
Did
you know
-
that sun lamps and tanning booths put you at a higher risk of
developing skin cancer and prematurely age the skin?
- that
you should use a sunscreen with a SPF of at least 15 on all
exposed skin, including the lips and ears, even on cloudy days?
-
that you should apply sun screen about 30 minutes before sun
exposure and reapply after swimming or excessive sweating?
For
a list of ten tips to practice "safe sun," visit the Dermatology
Surgery Center's page on caring for your skin. http://www.dermatologysurgery.com/suncare.htm
Educate
your younger children about harmful sunburns and tanning beds
by visiting The SunGuard Man's site, where they can play an online
game, participate in an art contest, or go on an online treasure
hunt. http://www.sunguardman.org/interact.html
Take
care of your skin now, and you won't be putting yourself at a
higher risk of skin cancer and prematurely aged skin later.
