Your
Baby's First Year ~ Month 4
As
your baby becomes so much more aware of the world around him,
he becomes more sociable too. His personality will really
start to emerge now, and you will both benefit from 'conversations'.
Try imitating your baby's 'words' and sounds. It will delight
him! Many researchers believe four-month-olds understand all
the basic sounds that make up their native language. Although
your baby may develop the ability to say mama and dada this
month, he won't yet connect them with you.
His
attention may wander during feeding sessions, as he notices
his surroundings. He will likely eat fewer meals each day
now. If you're wondering about solid foods now, let
your baby tell you when he is ready!
Your
baby will be sleeping around 15 hours a day now. He may (or
may not!) be sleeping though the night, and taking two naps
during the day.
As
your baby's sleeping patterns become more predictable, you
will feel more rested, too! Take some time for yourself while
your baby naps. Rather than rushing about cleaning, why not
read, soak in the bathtub, take a nap or reconnect with friends?
The housework will wait! When it is time for housework, try
to cut down on unnecessary household tasks. Let the dishes
drain... plan simple meals... Once you have a system, housekeeping
will become easier.
