Your
Baby's First Year ~ Month 7
By
the seventh month, your baby is showing more signs of being
an independent little person. Many babies can sit well and
some are even starting to crawl. But many babies will not
creep or crawl for a few months yet. Some babies are able
to pull themselves up to a standing position and cruise around
the furniture, while others are content to wait a few more
months before testing out these skills.
Other
things your baby may be doing now include:
-
Protesting if you take a toy or other object away
- Work
to get a toy that is out of reach
- Pass
objects from one hand to the other
- Play
Peek-a-boo
- Babble
and say 'ma-ma' or 'da-da'
- Look
for an object that has been dropped
No
matter how carefully you babyproof your home, your baby is
bound to bonk his head, elbows or knees at some point. Lots
of TLC from Mom or Dad is usually all that is needed to 'fix
the boo boo'. If you haven't already done it, you should babyproof
your home before your little one gets more mobile!
Many
babies are ready to make the switch from strained foods to
things with coarser textures. Suitable foods include mashed
small curd cottage cheese (although some health care practitioners
recommend no dairy products until after the 8th month), oven
dried toast, mashed cooked fruits and vegetables. This is
also the time when clear fruit juices (many mom's mix the
juice with equal amounts of water) may be added to your baby's
diet.
